<strong>Patricia (Patty) Gray</strong> is from Southern California, and is majoring in English in the literary studies track. Currently, she is a copy-editor for Principia’s on-campus newspaper, The Pilot. Last fall, she traveled with students from Principia to Prague, Czech Republic, to study 20th &amp;21st century Czech literature, studio art, and creative writing. For her capstone in English literature, she is exploring confessional writing, focusing on a feminist and psychoanalytic approach, as she researches the poetry of Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton. In her free time, she loves to go dancing with friends or to watch movies while eating a lot of chocolate—especially Reese’s.

MANAGING EDITOR

Kristin Manker is a senior majoring in English in the creative writing track and minoring in Asian Studies. In her sophomore year of college, before she joined the staff, Kristin’s short story titled, “Gray Blob” was published by Mistake House and she is excited now to be a contributing member of the magazine’s executive board. In addition to her role as Managing Editor for Mistake House, she has also served as head of the delegate committee for Principia’s Public Affairs Conference (PAC), in early April 2017. When Kristin isn’t focused on her extra curricular activities, she’s working on her fiction capstone, which explores how humans recognize and come to terms with their innermost thoughts and fears.

 

 

 

 

 

 

ONLINE EDITOR

Elizabeth Hagenlocher currently lives in Illinois. An English major in the creative writing track, she also minors in Theatre and History. Currently, she is the co-president for the “Friends of English” (FOEs) club. In the past, she has been a writer for Principia’s newspaper, The Pilot and has taught creative writing classes at a youth summer camp. Her work has appeared in Ridley Pearson’s The Syndrome, as the voice of Mattie Weaver. Her short fiction was accepted into the National Undergraduate Literary Conference (NULC) in 2016 and 2017. Elizabeth’s hobbies include reading, swimming, and critiquing “high fashion.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

SOAP BUBBLE SET EDITOR

Sydni Hammar is an English major in the creative writing track. On campus, she works as a writing tutor in the Center for Teaching and Learning, and she enjoys the collaborative process of untangling ideas and understanding grammar with tutees. In the fall of 2016, Sydni studied abroad in Prague, Czech Republic and was particularly engaged with the study of the arts and their relationship to communism in the 20th century. She continues to exploring the relationship between the arts, culture, and politics in her senior poetry-writing capstone. During the fall 2017 semester, she will serve as the English Department’s post-graduate teaching intern. In her free time, she loves running on her college campus and hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains in her home town of Topanga, CA.

 

 

 

 

 

FICTION EDITOR

Madison Flannery is double majoring in English in the creative writing track and Theatre. She currently lives in Los Angeles, and has been published in Outrageous Fortune and Metaphor. Madison won the Adventure Write’s 2009 national writing contest, and her short fiction was accepted into the National Undergraduate Literary Conference (NULC) at Weber State University in both 2015 and 2016. As a hobby, she rewrites film and television scripts.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

POETRY EDITOR

Samantha Bronkar is majoring in English in the literary studies track and minoring in Global Studies with an emphasis in war and trauma. Last fall, she traveled to Prague, Czech Republic with a Principia Abroad program to study creative writing, visual art, and modernist and contemporary Czech culture and literature. Next fall, she will travel to England with another abroad program to study Shakespearean literature and theatre. She has served as a writing tutor for Principia’s Center for Teaching and Learning for three years and has written for the college’s news magazine The Pilot for two semesters. During the spring semester in 2018, she will serve as the Principia College English Department’s post-graduate teaching intern. Outside the classroom, you can find her on the softball field, and, on breaks, you can find her enjoying life in the shade of apple trees on her farm on the Central California Coast.

 

 

 

 

 

 

MARKETING DIRECTOR

Rachael Schueler is a junior double majoring in English in the creative writing track and Mathematics. Rachael has proofread a novel for re-publication, worked as a copy editor for Principia’s newspaper, The Pilot, and has served as a Mistake House staff member since early 2015. She enjoys blending the creative processes of art and writing, crossing the Atlantic Ocean to broaden her perspective on literature and culture, and collecting art supplies. She finds that English and Mathematics are not so far apart as everyone seems to think.
