Fatemeh Fani is an Iranian researcher, activist, interdisciplinary artist and an MFA student in studio art at UW-Madison. Upon immigrating to the U.S., as an Iranian woman, she found herself intricately positioned between two disparate worlds, navigating the complexities of dual identities and divergent life experiences. Fatemeh’s research is centered on mandatory Hejab in Iran and the ways in which trauma is remembered and preserved. Her studio practice is dedicated to raising awareness of the realities of mandatory hijab-not only a matter of clothing, but a symbol of broader control of the Islamic regime who restricts and deny Iranian women freedom in every aspect of life.
